Mud, Rods and Reels Tour

Lock the hubs and hold on, we’re about to see what these mud tires can do. On this action-packed adventure we head deep into the woods of the last frontier.

This trip includes a 2 1/2 hour round-trip 4 x 4 trail ride on one of the gnarliest trails around, out to one of our favorite local salmon fishing holes. This trip is most popular mid-July through the end of August when the salmon are running. However it’s not uncommon to catch rainbow trout or dolly varden out there.

Duration: 7 – 8 hrs
This tour can also be booked as a 5 hour evening tour
Cost:
Day tour: $250 per person
Evening tour: $175 per person
Group size: 3
Minimum Age: 12. However, anybody under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian.

There are no bathrooms available; you should be prepared to do your business in the woods and bring the appropriate material.

Evening Fishing

Looking for an exciting after-dinner activity close to town? Then this is the trip for you!

This 4 hour trip introduces you to some of the best local fish-producing creeks in the area. These trips offer a wide variety of fish species including rainbow trout, grayling, dolly varden, and salmon. These are primarily walking trips only. Transportation to the fishing grounds is provided, however there are little to no 4 x 4 trails on these tours.

Duration: 4 – 5 hrs
Cost: $150 per person
Group size: 3

Tundra Back Country Tour

This tour is unique in that it offers several variations, as well as an overnight option for experienced back country folks, or the opportunity to spend the night in your own cabin at an old mining camp.

You can choose an all-day fishing tour, an all-day small game hunting tour (only available starting August 10) or a combination small game hunting and fishing tour. Please note the combination only offers small game hunting starting August 10 and later.

This tour also offers an overnight camping or small cabin option. Overnight camping is only available for experienced back country campers. The cabins are small and basic, but warm and dry. There is an additional option to include a hands-on gold panning experience with old-time miner and lodge owner Ken, on the second day, for $25 extra.

Duration: These are full day tours averaging 10 hours per day depending on what you choose, however tours can be as short as 8 hours or as long as 12 hours

1 day combination hunting and fishing – $285
2 day hunting or fishing + camping – $405
2 day combination hunting and fishing + camping – $415

Included in hunting tours: Firearms and ammunition, lunch and non-alcoholic drinks
Included in overnight camping tour: camping gear, tents, sleeping bags and sleeping pads, lunch, dinner, second day breakfast and second day lunch 
Included in overnight cabin tour:
lunch, dinner, second day breakfast and second day lunch. The cabins are simple and have a double bed on the bottom and a twin bed on top. There is a main area with a bathroom, a flush toilet and a shower.

License and Regulations

Hunting and fishing licenses are available locally and in person; however it is recommended to obtain the appropriate licenses prior to the start of your trip. This will save time and ensure that there are no issues on the day of the trip. Licenses can be purchased online with the following links.

Fishing license
Alaska Department of Fish and Game prohibits active fishing for King Salmon. There will be no King Salmon fishing on these tours, until State fishing regulations change.

Small Game Hunting license
For small game you only need a small game hunting license (no regular hunting license or tags are needed).

What you should bring

Alaska is as extreme as it is beautiful and weather can change within minutes. A summer day can be 40 and raining or 80 and sunny, so you should be prepared with all of the following:

  • Comfortable clothes
  • Warm upper layers such as fleece, wool, and polypropylene
  • Rain gear
  • Rubber boots
  • Bug repellent
  • Snack food, water and drinks
  • music devices, ipad etc (optional)

You should

Have an active lifestyle
Be able to spend up to an hour in a vehicle on an off road trail
Be capable of wading in creeks and streams for several hours
Be able to communicate with an English-speaking guide

Things to know

No smoking allowed in vehicles
No drinking allowed in vehicles
No drinking allowed while actively engaged with firearms
No pets allowed

Gun safety

Guns are fun, guns are great, and guns are awesome. GUNS ARE NOT TOYS! Talkeetna 4 x 4 adventures has an absolute zero tolerance policy for the misuse or mistreatment of firearms. A gun is as safe or as dangerous as the hand that holds it. Anybody that wishes to use a firearm may do so, however there is a mandatory safety tutorial on the safe handling and operation of firearms prior to engagement. Anybody that misuses or uses a firearm in a dangerous manner will have it immediately confiscated and you will act as the retriever for the rest of the trip while your buddies shoot small game animals.

Cancellation policy

Any trip cancellation requests received up to 7 days prior to departure will receive a 100% refund. All cancellation requests received within 7 days of departure will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the scheduled trip departure, or failure to arrive at the scheduled time will be considered a forfeit of the funds and will receive a 0% refund. Talkeetna 4x4 Adventures LLC reserves the right to cancel a tour at any time, in this event guests will receive a 100% refund.
